Fibromyalgia diet

After I wrote the post about the Secret, I did some more research on Rhonda Byrnes and found this interesting book review by a person who suffers from fibromyalgia. This is a topic that is close to my heart as I have a neighbour and a sister that suffers from Fibromyalgia. The blog is called But you don’t look sick
It is a very difficult medical problem as so many people do not understand this illness. My sister has a hard time with doctors as they do not know how to treat her. She is in constant pain. After reading this blog I found another entry on the website that was a book review for the fibromyalgia diet book

I am hoping through the power of the Internet that Fibromyalgia sufferers find some way to make their life less painful and able to lead normal lives. I really think that the book the Secret helps people in every situation, it is not a cure all but a positive outlook has helped a lot of people. And as I said before, what have you got to lose?

Dealing with the loss of a child

Dealing with the loss of a child has been the hardest part of my life. But losing two children, nearly destroyed me. We were so lucky to have had three children who we named Andy, Katie and Jamie. The pregnancies went well, we were enjoying our life with our children until that fateful day. Our son Jamie was 18 months old. For several months Jamie had been sick off and on, so was late for his last booster shot which was HIB which stands for Haemophilus influenzae type b. Back then children were immunized when they were 18 months. Now they can get it as early as 0-12 months. I have copied this text from another site so you know what happens when your baby does not get vaccinated.

“Why does my baby need the Hib vaccine?
The Hib vaccine protects your child from the Haemophilus influenzae type b bacteria, which can cause epiglottitis (severe swelling in the throat that makes it hard to breathe), a serious form of pneumonia, and a disease called bacterial meningitis. Meningitis is an infection of the membrane covering the brain and spinal cord that can lead to lasting brain damage and deafness in young children, and can sometimes be fatal. Haemophilus influenzae can also cause serious joint and skin infections as well as other less common infections.

Before the Hib vaccine was approved for young children in 1990, Hib was the leading cause of bacterial meningitis in U.S. infants and children. Every year, roughly 20,000 people were infected with Hib, and two-thirds of those patients developed meningitis.

Jamie woke up one morning feeling pretty cranky. I got my two other children off to school, and that day Jamie only got worse. He started running a very high temperature, so like other times, I bathed him in cool water and he seemed to be comfortable. As the day progressed though, he became increasingly sleepy. I started having a hard time waking him up. I called my husband at work and he came home, and then we called our family doctor. When I told the doctor how sick Jamie was he told us Read more »

My Cottage Life

I have been going to the Pickeral River ever since I was about 5 years old. My father James O’Donnell worked for the Canadian National Railway and the cottage that we went to was for CNR employees. They had a Rod and Gun Club, and families would go up there throughout the summer and fish, swim and just enjoy the north country. Because my Dad worked at the CNR we got free train passes. Our journey would start at Union Station in Toronto, Ontario and end at the old train station at the Pickeral River. Read more »

Paris Hilton

Paris Hilton

There has been a lot of talk/gossip/discussion regarding Paris Hilton. I want to add my two cents worth/ mother’s view.

It is interesting to see that Paris Hilton is the eldest of four and you rarely read about the other three at all. There is no point in me writing about the history of Paris Hilton when you can go to Wikipedia and find it all there. (I love Wikipedia because it gives you so much information) Now what kind of career or job would you take if you were so wealthy? She tried modeling, singing, acting, and has lent her name to a lot of businesses as well. According to an article by Forbes Magazine, Hilton earned approximately $2 million in 2003–2004, Read more »

You have never been on a Singles Cruise?

If you have never been on a cruise, what are you waiting for? I must admit, being the only married woman on a singles cruise proved to be more fun than I had expected. I went on my first singles cruise a few years ago when I heard about Singles Cruise.com. I did not feel comfortable recommending a cruise to my customers without having tried one myself. So, I thought what the heck, I contacted a few girls on Singles Canada and asked them if they wanted to go. They jumped at the opportunity as they had never been on a cruise either. Well, the fun started long before Read more »

Baby Names

Baby Names How to Choose

I remember when I had my first child, a son. I remember listening to a Dolly Parton record where she sang about a little girl Sandy who had a dog named Andy. To this day I can not remember the song, but I liked the name Andy so that is what we called our son. My mother said we could have named him after her grandfather whose name was Otis. I could not imagine Andy going through life as Otis Copus!! We went on to name our daughter Katherine, and our other son Jamie. We did not give them second names which our kids Read more »

Camp Day at Tim Horton’s

My experience as a Camp Day Volunteer

I had to write this, as I think volunteering for Tim Hortons Camp Day was one of those days that opened my eyes. I had only planned on being there until 10:00 that day, but I thought why not go for a whole day. I only took one small break (big mistake) and worked on through the lunch and the after school crowd. Oh yes, that is something else I would like to mention, the high school was across the road. So you can only imagine how crowded this Tim Horton’s was with the students, teachers, plus the senior crowd and local businesses ordering their morning coffee, lunch and then the 3:00 rush. Never will I complain at a Tim Horton’s again!! They really work for their money, it is hard work and there is Read more »

My Weight Watchers journal

Self image

We learn about self image very early in life. Before we even get to school there are other children that will find something different about you and tease you. This moves onto bullying in later years. I was teased from a very young age about my weight, and because I was poor. I was the third of six children, my Mother took good care of us and did the best she could, but we stood out in our neighbourhood. It was hard not looking like everyone else. But, if it wasn’t for my weight, or social status they would have found something else to pick on. This sticks with you for the rest of your life. You go through life thinking that you are fat and this came from the opinions of people you went to school who were not that perfect themselves. When I look at the weight that I gained since I had my children I can honestly Read more »
