What I learned from seagulls - the seagull strategy

Okay the title is weird, but I went for a drive yesterday afternoon so I could eat my lunch near the water. There wasn’t a seagull in site. Then I decided to throw some BBQ fritos out the window. Yes I had a very healthy lunch. Within seconds there were about 25 - 30 seagulls surrounding my car. I started throwing a few fritos out the window and all the seagulls starting fighting and making seagull noises. (I actually looked up on the Internet what it was called when they make their noise and found nothing. Anyways, back to my story. I decided to open the door of my car and start dropping the fritos closer and closer to the car. All the seagulls stood back and barked (for the lack of a better word) You could see a pecking order (sorry for the pun) and they would threaten any other bird that got in its way. Then suddenly from the back of the flock, one sole seagull walked slowly up to my car. I stayed really still as it approached the open door of my car. Read more »

Self help books - MMMomma recommended reads

It has been over 10 years…maybe more since I picked up a book. I just got busy in my life and then the Internet came a long and ate away all my time.

Just last month I picked up my first book and read it. I use to start at the back of a book, I was an impatient reader, but this time I started at the front and before I know it I had read 50 pages. My journey started with the secret.

The other books I have read have been
1. Jack Canfield Success Principles
2. Ladies Who Launch by Victoria Scolligan and Beth Schoenfeldt (with Amy Swift)
3. The Creative Habit Twyla Tharp - Learn it and Use it for Life

For any woman starting in business you need to read Ladies Who Launch. I was walking out of Chapters Book Store the other day and say it just as I was heading out the door. The put the books there like chocolates at the cashier….I read the back cover and thought hey, I need this book. They have a website www.ladieswholaunch.com but buy the book, you will need it and then go and register on the site. There are meetings all over the United States and in Canada. I found one in Toronto and I am just waiting to hear from them.

Well it is nearly 2:00 in the morning and I need to get this posted, so happy reading

Wanted - Victoria Beckham look alikes - Apply within

Seriously people. I just watched (by accident) as I was flicking channels, the Victoria Beckham comes to America show and she really needs to find some look alikes to use as decoys. I enjoyed the part where she wanted to find a look alike to fool the press so she could go to a jewelery store to buy Beck’s a welcome to America watch. They went to a sex shop and bought a blow up doll. They even went to the trouble to get a wig for this doll and her personal hairdresser gave the doll’s wig a look- a- like hair cut. I think it fooled the paparazzi long enough for her to slip away, so they could film her picking out a very expensive watch for Beck’s at one of the top jewelry stores in L.A. I actually did the reverse to what Victoria Beckham experienced. O.K, I am not the wife of a famous soccer player, but I did meet and marry a British guy and had to experience what life had in store for me in England. They use different expressions over there, such as: a truck is a lorry, the washroom is the loo, so I can just imagine how bewildering it was for Victoria Beckham to come to America.

It is great to see that Beckham is trying to get Americans to love soccer as much as Europe does. Beckham said in an interview ““This is one of the biggest challenges I’ve ever taken on in my career,” “To move to a new country, the other side of the world, it’s something I’m looking forward to. In my career I’ve played for two of the biggest club sides in the world Manchester United and Real Madrid,” Beckham said “I’ve also played 11 years for my country, and I’m still playing for my country. Well let’s hope that Beckham gets Americans and Canadians alike, more interested in the game of soccer. It is huge in England, personally I have always been a Arsenal fan myself . I am the chairperson for the Arsenal Canada supporters club which was started two years ago.

I am sure that Victoria is going to get sick and tired of being hunted down by the paparazzi all the time. So I thought I would do her a favor. If there are any Victoria Beckham look alikes out there please send me your photo. You never know when Victoria Beckham could use you to fool the ole paparazzi again.

Welcome to America Victoria

Fibromyalgia diet

After I wrote the post about the Secret, I did some more research on Rhonda Byrnes and found this interesting book review by a person who suffers from fibromyalgia. This is a topic that is close to my heart as I have a neighbour and a sister that suffers from Fibromyalgia. The blog is called But you don’t look sick
It is a very difficult medical problem as so many people do not understand this illness. My sister has a hard time with doctors as they do not know how to treat her. She is in constant pain. After reading this blog I found another entry on the website that was a book review for the fibromyalgia diet book

I am hoping through the power of the Internet that Fibromyalgia sufferers find some way to make their life less painful and able to lead normal lives. I really think that the book the Secret helps people in every situation, it is not a cure all but a positive outlook has helped a lot of people. And as I said before, what have you got to lose?

Dealing with the loss of a child

Dealing with the loss of a child has been the hardest part of my life. But losing two children, nearly destroyed me. We were so lucky to have had three children who we named Andy, Katie and Jamie. The pregnancies went well, we were enjoying our life with our children until that fateful day. Our son Jamie was 18 months old. For several months Jamie had been sick off and on, so was late for his last booster shot which was HIB which stands for Haemophilus influenzae type b. Back then children were immunized when they were 18 months. Now they can get it as early as 0-12 months. I have copied this text from another site so you know what happens when your baby does not get vaccinated.

“Why does my baby need the Hib vaccine?
The Hib vaccine protects your child from the Haemophilus influenzae type b bacteria, which can cause epiglottitis (severe swelling in the throat that makes it hard to breathe), a serious form of pneumonia, and a disease called bacterial meningitis. Meningitis is an infection of the membrane covering the brain and spinal cord that can lead to lasting brain damage and deafness in young children, and can sometimes be fatal. Haemophilus influenzae can also cause serious joint and skin infections as well as other less common infections.

Before the Hib vaccine was approved for young children in 1990, Hib was the leading cause of bacterial meningitis in U.S. infants and children. Every year, roughly 20,000 people were infected with Hib, and two-thirds of those patients developed meningitis.

Jamie woke up one morning feeling pretty cranky. I got my two other children off to school, and that day Jamie only got worse. He started running a very high temperature, so like other times, I bathed him in cool water and he seemed to be comfortable. As the day progressed though, he became increasingly sleepy. I started having a hard time waking him up. I called my husband at work and he came home, and then we called our family doctor. When I told the doctor how sick Jamie was he told us Read more »
