Baby Names
Baby Names How to Choose
I remember when I had my first child, a son. I remember listening to a Dolly Parton record where she sang about a little girl Sandy who had a dog named Andy. To this day I can not remember the song, but I liked the name Andy so that is what we called our son. My mother said we could have named him after her grandfather whose name was Otis. I could not imagine Andy going through life as Otis Copus!! We went on to name our daughter Katherine, and our other son Jamie. We did not give them second names which our kids could never understand. But seriously, when do you ever use them?
Look at the celebrities who have given their children some very different names. Gwyneth Paltrow called her babies Apple and Moses. I can understand a biblical name but Apple?? Julia Roberts is another mother who chose some very unusual names for her twins, Hazel Patricia and son Phinnaeus Walter. Their third child was given a very normal name of Henry Daniel Moder.
I think it was back in the 70’s with Frank Zappa calling his children Moon Unit, Dweezil and Ahmet. I think it is important to find a name that best suits your family. I personally do not like to see a child being called John Jr., or anything Jr. for that matter. Alice Cooper named his daughter Calico Cooper, sounds more like a cat name. Poor kids, to live in the limelight and have a weird name to boot.
Since the birth of the Internet, you can find 1000’s of names, their origin and meaning. One website I found is called babynames. I saw a funny article about a baby that was given 27 names. This site is good to find out the latest about celebrity baby news. I liked this website baby names world, better as it starts to show baby names right on the front page instead of a pile of ads.
Todays Parent has the top 100 Baby Names in Canada which is interesting to read. I would never have thought that Emma for a girl and Ethan/Ethen would be number 1. This website babyhold has over 20000 Baby Names! I think this list is a good start for any of you out there who can not make up their mind about a name. Actually this is like throwing you in a huge mall of names. Happy hunting.
Wow, before I totally finish this post I found a great site for babies. It is not for names but somewhere where you can post your babies birth announcement and much more. Check this baby celebration page out. I can hardly wait to be a grandmother. I love the photo family tree, I can see a lot of uses for this site as I am just looking into our family tree now. I actually flipped through the site while I was working and minimized the website and listened to the music that they have on the pages.
